Printing Six Slides per Page in PowerPoint

or, why when it shows six slides in the dialog box, only one per page prints out?

These instructions apply to PowerPoint 2000, XP, 2002, and 2003

INSTRUCTIONS

1. With the PowerPoint file open, go to the File menu, and choose Print.

print dialog box

2. You will notice in the lower half of the dialog box, under the Handouts section, it shows "slides per page: 6" in gray. There is a reason it is gray; it means that these settings don't apply to what you are printing. If you look to the left under the Print what section, it says Slides.

3. To the right of the word Slides, click on the down arrow to activate the drop-down menu. You will have a choice of Slides, Handouts, Notes pages, and Outline View.

4. Choose Handouts. You will notice that the Handouts section is no longer gray.

5. You can now choose either 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 slides per page.

6. To make absolutely certain you are printing six slides per page (or whatever number you've chosen) and to make sure you don't waste paper, you should click on the Preview button first (located in the lower left corner of the dialog box). After previewing, you can click Print in the top left.

ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE

Another way is by clicking the Print Preview button (the one with the magnifying glass), then where it says Print What, press the Down Arrow, and choose Handouts 6 Slides Per Page. Then click the Print button.
